Some couples have both the ceremony and reception in the same place, while others marry in a church and then go elsewhere for the reception.
Of course, you can solve the whole problem of where to have your reception if you hold it in the fellowship hall of the church where you get married.
Just add some modest decorations
and you can have a wonderful reception. That is what I did.
Here are some additional sources for decorating ideas.
If your budget is a concern,
holding it at the church
will save on renting a hall or a hotel ballroom. It is also a convenience for your guests as they will not have to travel across town to attend your reception. Some couples marry in a church and then go to the home of the bride or a relative for the reception. If the home and/or yard are big enough to accommodate your guests, this can be a great idea. Of course, things can get a little out of hand if you allow it. Expenses can pile up as tents, tables, and chairs are rented and home and yard improvements are put in just for the wedding. Remember the 1992 version of "Father Of The Bride" with Steve Martin, Diane Keaton, and Martin Short? They had the reception at the bride's home. Martin Short's character, Franc, played the wedding coordinator and turned the house and yard upside down at great expense but it turned out perfect! We could all use a great wedding coordinator like that, but with the average American wedding costing about $27,000 now, most of us just don't have pockets that deep for one party! A lot of great ideas for wedding receptions on a budget can become a reality in the spacious ballroom of a hotel. You can have a fairytale wedding, a costume party, or a winter wonderland extravaganza. The main advantage of using a hotel is that it usually provides the catering along with the ballroom in a package deal. If you don't want a cookie cutter wedding,
think outside the box.
You can plan your reception around a holiday or a season of the year such as:
Spring wedding reception
Summer wedding reception
Fall wedding reception
Winter wedding reception
Christmas wedding reception
Valentine's Day Wedding
St. Patrick's Day wedding reception
Consider some interesting possibilities. Let your imagination run wild. How about renting out a ballpark, an amusement park, a water park, a clean, new movie theater, or a marina? Art lovers might enjoy their reception in an art gallery or in a museum.
Some other great wedding receptions on a budget
can include having the party in a castle or a historic mansion. Castles are fairly common over in Europe but here in the United States, they are few and far between. With that being said, you may want to have a popular destination wedding in Europe or a warm one on a beautiful tropical island. If the bride and groom love being outdoors, some more wedding reception ideas are beaches, public or private parks, gardens, a farm in the country, a resort in the mountains, or if you live
in San Antonio, the Riverwalk.
A cruise ship, a ferry, a yacht, or a historic battleship all make great wedding reception ideas for water lovers.
For something completely different, consider a themed wedding.
Because of the food, the reception may be the most expensive part of the wedding day. You can
hire a caterer.
You will need to decide on the type of table decorations and centerpieces you want. Some caterers will take care of room and table decorations, centerpieces, tablecloths, and china. Others will just bring and cook the food. Of course, the more the caterer does, the more the bill will be so keep that in mind.
The more you can do, the better it will be on your budget.
Another option is for your close friends and family members to help you
cater the wedding yourself.
You can serve a full course meal,
fingerfoods,
or just desserts and
punch, coffee, or tea.
You will have to plan the layout of your wedding reception,
deciding where everything will go. If you are looking for some
simple reception ideas,
here are a few for you. As a Christian, you can choose not to have alcohol at your wedding. Not only will this glorify Christ, but it is also a great savings when planning wedding receptions on a budget. I realize that some churches within the Christian faith allow drinking. I have always been taught that drinking is wrong so I will not promote it. You will have to make the decision that is right for you. I encourage you to pray together as a couple about it. Wedding receptions on a budget take a little imagination but can be fun to plan.
