Wedding Reception Menus
You and your fiance should plan out a few wedding reception menus and then present them to your family and friends to see what foods will be most feasible for them to help you make for your guests.
The food you serve will depend on your budget, the cost of the food, the difficulty of preparation, the number of guests, the place where your reception will be held, and how easily the food can be kept warm or cold while serving it.
Keep in mind that simple is the best way to go so everyone eats delicious food without stress and worry. Remember that your family and friends are helping you out so if things are not just the way you want, you cannot go off on them like you would a hired caterer. These are people who love you, not employees. Stay calm and cool. Chillax as my daughter constantly tells me. (This intriguing new word is a combination of chill out and relax and is conveniently used each time I ask if she has completed her school assignments.) Don't let something as petty as food upset you and ruin your wedding day.
Wedding reception menus don't have to be seven course catered meals. For instance, serve a variety of cold cut sandwiches, cut in fourths on a variety of breads, some with cheese and some without. (Some people are allergic to dairy.)
Mark each plate as to the type of sandwich on it. Along with the sandwiches, serve cole slaw, potato salad, and several types of chips to make the younger guests happy. Serve the wedding cake for dessert. Easy!
Another of my wedding reception menus includes tossed green salad, baked lasagna with cheese, and spaghetti and meatballs without cheese. Put out cans of cheese that guests can sprinkle on, if they want. Serve with Italian or French bread and fresh fruit slices along with wedding cake for dessert. Simple!
If you want to serve something a little less fattening, but a little more expensive, serve baked boneless chicken breasts over rice, with steamed broccoli, carrots, and cauliflower on the side. (Steam the veggies together and flavor with a little butter for a delicious effect.) Add a green salad, a few salad dressings and some French bread or a good quality wheat bread along with wedding cake for dessert.
If your budget can afford it, substitute salmon or beef for the chicken.
Wedding reception menus do not have to be extravagant and costly. Serve the food on pretty dishes. Presentation makes the meal. Just be careful not to cook the meat too long and dry it out.
