Wedding Reception Layout
The wedding reception layout should flow easily from place to place. As soon as a guest enters,
the place card table
should be there for the convenience of their guests. Someone should be assigned to this important table, helping each guest find his/her seat assignment and pointing out which table the guest should go to.
In case guests bring gifts to the reception, (and many do) have a gift table set up close by so guests do not have to carry gifts around. Many guests do not send a gift to the house or attend a shower so they will bring gifts to the reception.
There should be a table for the wedding cake with easy access for the photographer. Some couples set up a separate table for the groom's cake, if you choose to have one.
At some weddings, favors for the guests are placed on the tables where the guests will eat. Other couples choose to have a favor table in their wedding reception layout. As each guest enters the reception area, they can pick up a favor.
The food and drinks should be on separate tables so guests can get drinks as often as they like without having to stand in a long line. I find they will drink a lot more than they will eat.
The music area should be away from all of the other tables, on the other side of the dancing area if there will be dancing at your wedding.
Place the head table with the bride and groom in a central location where everyone else can see them. Some couples choose to have their own table. Other couples include their wedding party. Still others include the best man, maid of honor and the parents of the bride and groom.
Some couples have their parents host their own tables. If parents are divorced, each divorced parent can host his/her own table to avoid conflict and uneasiness. Remember that you want your family and guests to be comfortable so it may work out best to separate divorced parents. This is perfectly acceptable and happens at weddings all the time now.
