Wedding Reception Invitation Wording

I have been receiving emails requesting that I provide wedding reception invitation wording so I will give you some ideas to use.

Sometimes the bride and groom want a private or small wedding ceremony with family members and very close friends present only. Yet they do not want to exclude friends and co-workers from the celebration. Perhaps they are getting married in a very small chapel, in a small home, or at a very small landmark, such as the Scenic Drive overlook in El Paso, Texas or the Summit up on Pikes Peak in Colorado Springs.

Or maybe the couple wants to get married in a hot air balloon or on an airplane high up in the sky. A private ceremony is fine, but how should the bride and groom convey to their friends and acquaintances that they are being invited to the reception but not the actual wedding ceremony?

First of all, I would not even mention on the invitation that they are not being invited to the wedding. It is best not to remind people of what they are missing. Some may take offense and say that if they are not good enough to attend the actual wedding ceremony, they are not about to buy a gift for the bride and groom. Others will feel hurt and insulted at being left out and we don't want that to happen. So do not remind them of what they are excluded from.

Instead, tell people what they are included in. And that is a wonderful wedding reception, a party celebrating your new life together.

Suggested Wedding Reception Invitation Wording

Here is a sample of what your wedding reception invitation could say:

The honour of your presence is requested

at the wedding reception of

Miss Julie Bradford

and

Mr. Steven Smith

as they begin their new life together

Saturday, the seventeenth of November

two thousand and seven

at six o'clock in the evening

Riverwalk Hilton Hotel

San Antonio, Texas

Here is another sample:

The honour of your presence is requested

at the wedding reception of

Miss Julie Bradford

and

Mr. Steven Smith

as they celebrate the beginning of their new life together

as husband and wife

Saturday, the seventeenth of November

two thousand and seven

at six o'clock in the evening

First Church of the Nazarene Fellowship Hall

El Paso, Texas

Feel free to change it so that it fits your wedding reception.

If you would really like to share your wedding ceremony with your reception guests, you might consider having someone film it and then you can play it at your reception so everyone can see your actual wedding. Of course, this is not necessary, but for some people, me included, the actual wedding ceremony is the best part of a wedding day, not the reception.

I wish you the best as you plan your wedding reception invitation wording and the reception itself.
