Wedding Finger Food Reception
Not long ago, a friend of mine had a wedding finger food reception. It was great. Patti had a self-serve buffet style dinner. Nothing formal or uncomfortable, just relaxed and fun.
The food served at Patti's wedding was simple, but delicious. It was all prepared by the bride's mom, aunt, and a few of her close friends. (I got to do my favorite, desserts!)
Forks were only needed with the wedding cake. Everything else served was truly food appropriate to be picked up and eaten with your hands.
Tiny, fancy-looking sandwiches with no crusts looked so pretty on silver serving trays. There were meat and cheese sandwiches, soft cheese filling sandwiches, veggie sandwiches, tuna salad sandwiches, and egg salad sandwiches. All varieties were made on white bread and wheat bread.
The wedding finger food reception also included vegetable trays, chips, and a variety of dips.
To please the younger guests, there were tiny peanut butter and jelly sandwiches and fruit slices.
Along with the gorgeous wedding cake, the dessert table included
brownies, lemon squares, mini cherry pies, and mini muffins in a variety of flavors--blueberry cheesecake, banana nut, and chocolate chip. I had a lot of fun making the tiny desserts with a friend.
Remember, when you choose to have a wedding finger food reception, or any reception for that matter, it is all about presentation. Present the food to your guests on fancy trays and beautiful dishes so that it looks attractive.
Dress up a plain cookie sheet with foil and perhaps a paper doily. Paper doilies can be purchased in a variety of shapes and sizes from craft stores such as Michael's and Hobby Lobby. Wal-Mart carries some also. Food that is beautifully presented and served seems to taste better. Buy pretty disposable plates and napkins in your wedding colors. Party stores, Wal-Mart, and even dollar stores offer these in a variety of colors. Buy them way ahead of time when you see the colors you want as they tend to sell out quickly when they get new shipments in, especially dollar stores. Everyone wants a bargain! Be sure to keep ice in containers under the sandwich trays to keep the food cold so there is no chance of getting your guests sick at your wedding finger food reception. The containers of ice should be fully covered by the serving trays and/or dishes. Pampered chef and Tupperware make some serving dishes with built-in compartments for ice under the food so those are convenient and great for veggie trays and deviled eggs, for example.
