Wedding Communion

Wedding communion is routinely served to the bride and groom during the ceremony in some churches. In others, it can be requested.

If the bride and groom are both born again Christians, it would be very meaningful for them to share the Lord's Supper as a part of their marital celebration.

This portion of the ceremony can be inserted where the minister and the couple feel it will fit in best. It is usually done close to the end of the ceremony.

The couple is usually asked to kneel. But if the bride feels it will be too difficult to do so and then get back up easily because of her dress or train, most ministers will be understanding. It can be served while the couple stands.

Wedding communion is served to the couple and then the minister has a prayer, asking God to bless the marital union and to be at the center of that union.

Jesus introduced what we now call the Lord's supper or communion on the night before he died on the cross for our sins.

Mark 14:22 reads, "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, 'Take it; this is my body.'" (NIV)

Then it goes on in Mark 14:23. "Then he took the cup, gave thanks and offered it to them, and they all drank from it." (NIV)

Taking communion in front of your family and friends is a beautiful testimony to the other Christians present that yours is a marriage where the Lord will be put first. It is also a witness to those in attendance who are not Christians.

Celebrate your first day of being husband and wife by partaking of the Lord's Supper during your wedding. You will always treasure that moment in your marriage ceremony.
