Sample Wedding Prayer

by Suzanne
(San Antonio)

Sometimes the bride and groom will ask a friend or a family member to say one or more prayers during the wedding ceremony, although most of the prayers are done by the minister.

It is always good to write out your wedding prayer unless you are very used to praying in public. Most can just "wing a prayer" if they pray out loud at church on a regular basis. If you do not but you are scheduled to say a wedding prayer, do yourself a favor and write it out ahead of time. Carry the prayer with you on a small sheet of paper and do not worry about reading it. No doubt you will be nervous at the wedding and you will be very glad you wrote it out instead of hemming and hawing, trying to think of something to say that makes sense.

Here is a sample wedding prayer:

Heavenly Father,

Thank you so much for the love you have for Jim and Sue and the love they have for each other and for you as they come to be united as husband and wife. We praise you that they are committed to you and we ask that you will bless their marriage and that you will always be at the center of their home. Pour your blessings down upon them as they start their new life together. For this we thank you. In Jesus name, Amen.

I hope this sample wedding prayer helps you as you prepare to give a wedding prayer.
