Planning a wedding is fun when it comes to creating homemade favors for weddings. By
designing and making your own,
you can save money and give your guests a memorable little something that they will say is "you".
Just make sure to give yourself plenty of time to decide on what you want to create and then plenty of time to create it. You can get the non-perishable portions of the favors done months in advance and just add the edible portion or plant or flower in time for the wedding.
The cookies below are shamrock cookies made by Pillsbury for a St. Patrick's Day or springtime wedding. They are pre-sliced and are ready to bake. Pillsbury also has pre-decorated cookies for Christmas, Easter, Valentine's Day and the 4th of July.
Not all favors have to be edible.
Spice ornaments
that you make with cinnamon and applesauce are not edible. They have a wonderful fragrance for your clothes closet, pantry, kitchen, or even your Christmas tree. Put up a small sign stating they are not edible. I have had recipients of these ornaments actually try to eat them as they look like cookies.
Speaking of Christmas, if you are having a Christmas wedding, consider making
sparkling glass ornaments as favors.
Below is a tutorial that I made to show you how to make bath bead favors for your wedding guests.
Handmade Christmas earrings make great favors, too. They are easy to make. I have made tons of them using earring wires and mini Christmas ornaments.
Enlist plenty of help from your friends and family because this is a time-consuming project, especially with everything else going on while you are planning your wedding.
Of course, you may want to buy some wedding favors
for your guests, such as wedding bubbles and disposable cameras. Wedding bubbles are inexpensive and come in a wide variety of containers such as roses, bells, wands, etc. These are fun and entertain the guests at the reception while they wait for the bride and groom to finish up with wedding photography in the church.
Disposable cameras are another great idea while waiting for the happy couple to arrive. Put two or three at each table. The guests can take snapshots of each other and of you after your arrival. Lots of candid shots will be great in your wedding scrapbook. Make sure you put a basket near the exit for the cameras to be placed in with a sign. You may want to assign a wedding party member to be in charge of this as guests leave, too.
When you get the photos developed, get double copies printed. Then you can send the guests some wedding keepsake photos of themselves and you as a thank you gift.
Homemade favors for weddings are so much fun to make. You can incorporate your wedding colors, favorite flowers, plants, cookies,
a variety of candies,
scents,......
There are many kits
available at craft stores to make tiny boxes, gift bags, and glassine envelopes to put your gifts in. To these, you can add labels, stickers, or tags with the names or monograms of the bride and groom, along with the wedding date.
Assemble these boxes or bags and add some candy, cookies, or non-edible items and you have easy homemade favors for weddings.
You can also buy small organza bags already made. These are perfect for
wedding throws
and fragrant bath salts that you can make for your guests.
Filled mini vases and mini pots can be given to guests as they leave the reception.
Another great idea is to use multiple wedding favor flower-filled vases as a centerpiece. Guests can each take a vase as they leave. Just make sure to put small signs on each table so the vases are not left behind.
