Food For A Wedding Reception

Food for a wedding reception can be simple and delicious, yet it does not have to cost a lot.

You can plan a simple dessert reception, serving mints, mixed nuts, wedding cake, and punch. So simple. This is appropriate for an afternoon wedding.

If you want, you can add some sliced fresh fruits, along with cookies and some delectable chocolates.

If you are having a lunchtime wedding, serve finger sandwiches, fruit slices, veggie trays, chips and dips, along with several dessert options.

For an evening dinner, food for a wedding reception can be as simple as a tossed salad, French bread, and chicken or shrimp kabobs. Grill shrimp or chicken, three to four pieces on wooden skewers. Serve two skewers on a plate. Serve desserts along with the wedding cake.

We served skewered grilled shrimp, beef, and chicken this past summer at a party. Our guests loved it! My husband grilled a ton of meat. I know because I am the one who put each piece of meat on the skewers.

***Skewer Tip***We used wooden skewers. If you use them, be sure to soak them in water prior to putting meat on them. That way, the wooden skewers will not catch on fire while they are on the grill.

If you have a breakfast reception, egg dishes can be baked and brought in. Of course, it can be kept simple by bringing in donuts, breakfast pastries, pan dulce (Mexican sweet breads), or breakfast tacos. Serve with hot coffee, juice, and some sliced fresh fruit.

As long as you have plenty of help from family and close friends, a do it yourself wedding reception can be successfully given.
