Your First Wedding Dance

Your first wedding dance as husband and wife should be special--something you will remember for the rest of your lives. Now it is something you can share with the world!

While a traditional dance such as a waltz, swing, foxtrot, or rumba may have been what your parents and grandparents did, you can choose something much more contemporary like hip-hop or a break dance. How about popping or twisting? You could disco or hustle or have your whole wedding party dance to Michael Jackson's Thriller.

Yes, couples are doing all of these dances and more. Some are taking lessons for up to six months before the big day. Others are hiring choreographers for up to $1000 to teach them moves to a favorite song that will impress reception guests. This is the latest trend in wedding reception dances.

Wedding Dances

Are you planning a special wedding dance? How are you preparing for it? Lessons? Rehearsals with videos? Group dancing? Did you attend a wedding with a special first dance? Please tell us about it.

If you are talented, coordinated, and brave, you can save some money by choreographing your own dance moves with your fiance. You will have to practice more than you can imagine. If you want to surprise your guests, you will have to keep all of this practicing a secret as so many couples do.

Just arrange it all with your band or DJ ahead of time. If you choose to do a group dance, you will have to swear everyone involved to secrecy. Good luck with that!

The couples who go to all of this trouble say they want to avoid that awkward first dance, holding each other at arm's length and just have fun. They want to provide entertainment to their families and friends. They also want to have wonderful memories and great video of their first wedding dance.

To prove this point and to get ideas on how you can surprise your guests, go to You Tube and type in "first wedding dance". You will be amused and amazed to see some of the great dance moments posted there.

So be creative, original, and practice, practice, practice. What a great way to get in shape for your wedding. Remember to have fun with it. You could be the next couple everyone is watching on the internet!
