Engagement Ring

Congratulations! Did your fiance present you with a diamond engagement ring when he popped the question? Why do guys bring us rings when they propose?

This tradition actually comes from Italy during medieval times. Back then the groom had to pay the bride's father before he could marry his daughter. Part of what the groom paid with were precious stones. This is why diamonds and other stones are part of the proposal today.

Diamonds come in many beautiful styles. Did you also know that diamonds come in colors other than clear? A lot of brides, including celebrities, have colored diamonds.

How did HE propose?

How did your fiance propose? Did he totally surprise you? Please share your special story with us.

The most popular diamond colors other than clear colored ones are yellow, pink, black, and brown. But the most valuable of the colored diamonds and the most difficult to find are the red ones.

Some diamonds are naturally colored and, of course, are worth more than the synthetically colored diamonds.

You will need to know the 4 C's of diamonds before you choose the diamond you want to wear.

Other popular ring stones are emeralds, rubies, and sapphires (think Princess Diana). Many brides-to-be choose a combination of these stones and diamonds.

If you have questions about stones, ask the gemnologist at your favorite jewelry store.

To get a beautiful ring or a bridal set of rings, you do not have to spend thousands of dollars at the most expensive jewelry store in town. That is not what love is all about.
