A Christian wedding prayer at the beginning of your wedding is an important way to honor the Lord Jesus Christ in front of your guests and to invite Him to be a part of your marriage.
Can you think of a better way to begin your life together as a married couple?
Most pastors will have a basic invocation prayer ready to pray at the start of the ceremony. If not, there are several below that your pastor can use as is. He can feel free to modify any of the prayers on this page as well.
Opening Prayers
1. Our Gracious Heavenly Father,
We thank you for the love you provide for us each day. Today, we thank you for the love you have given _________ and _________ as they come before you on their wedding day.
We invite you here to bless and protect their union and we ask you to help them to grow closer to each other while growing closer to you.
In the precious name of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
2. Our Father in Heaven,
We thank you for being here in our midst. We ask your blessing and protection on the union of _________ and _________ in holy matrimony. Keep them close to each other. Please be at the center of their marriage.
In the holy name of Jesus. Amen.
3. Lord, God,
We thank you for bringing us all together on the joyous occasion of the wedding of _________ and _________. We ask that you will bless them and be with them through all the days of their life together.
In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
Somewhere during the ceremony, the bride and groom may want to recite a Christian wedding prayer together as a couple. This can easily fit in right after the lighting of the Unity candle. You can place a copy of the prayer on the table near the Unity candle or it can be placed in the groom's pocket. (Putting a copy in both places just in case is wise, in my opinion!)
Once the candle has been lit, the bride and groom can face the guests and read the prayer together.

Our Gracious Heavenly Father,
Thank you for bringing us together and for the love you have given to us. We invite you to be at the center of our marriage from this day forward.
Please place your blessing on our home and on any children that you may choose to bless us with. May our home be filled with your love, joy, and peace. Help us to be aware that you are always with us. May everyone in our home serve you with gladness.
In the name of Jesus we pray. Amen.
At the end of the wedding ceremony, the pastor should close with a Christian wedding prayer.
Here are some sample closing Christian wedding prayers.
Closing Christian Wedding Prayers
1. Dear Father,
I thank you that _________ and _________ are united in holy matrimony. I ask you to bless and keep them. Make your face to shine upon them and be gracious unto them. Please give them your peace in all they do.
In Jesus' name. Amen
2. Heavenly Father,
Please surround _________ and _________ with your love and peace as they begin this new chapter. Keep them close to you always. Keep them ever faithful to each other and to you, just as you are ever faithful to those who love and serve you.
In the name of your Son, Jesus. Amen.
3. Our gracious heavenly Father,
Author of love and marriage, bless this couple in their union. Protect their home through the coming years. Give them your joy and your peace. Help them to glorify you in everything they do.
In the precious name of Jesus. Amen.
