Cheap wedding garters can be found at dollar stores that have a wedding section. I recently found a nice selection of them at Dollar Tree. Amazingly, I bought each for $1 but at some wedding supplies shops you can pay $25 or more for a garter that you will wear for a little while and then it will belong to the guy your new husband tosses it to. So why not just pay $1? It does not make sense to pay more, especially since you won't be keeping it.If you do want to keep your garter, buy two and have your husband throw the really cheap one and you keep the good one as a keepsake!
Most garters are blue to cover the Something Old, Something New, Something Borrowed, Something Blue superstition. Some are white. They are usually satiny with lace and tiny flowers made of fabric.
You can make one with some thin elastic, satiny fabric, lace and a sewing machine. Measure the elastic around your leg and sew it on the wrong side in the middle of the satin fabric that has been cut on a straight line the length of the elastic that went around your leg. Hem the top and bottom of the fabric by the elastic. Sew both ends of the garter together and make sure it fits comfortably around your leg. You will wear it for several hours probably so you want it to feel good.
