Cater A Dessert Wedding Reception Yourself

by Madelyn
(Poughkeepsie, NY)

A great way to save money on your wedding is to cater a dessert wedding reception yourself. Grab your mom and your aunts, cousins, grandmothers, whoever loves to bake and will be happy to help you. Plan the most awesome dessert wedding reception. Of course, you will have wedding cake and most people want some, but surprise your guests.

Serve a large variety of sweets and desserts from sliced fresh fruits such as watermelon, cantaloupe, strawberries, and cherries to cookies, candies, chocolates, pies, tarts, cheesecake, lemon squares, and brownies.

It is best if everything is homemade but if some of your family and friends want to contribute but cannot bake, have them go to a good bakery and buy some delicious desserts.

Display all of the desserts on a large table set up for serving food buffet style. Make sure that everything is pre-sliced and that each dish has a server so guests, especially kids, don't end up putting their hands all over the food. If a pie is not cut and there is no knife, that pie will not get eaten so make everything user-friendly for your guests.

Provide plenty of dessert plates, forks, and napkins. To save money on beverages, serve hot coffee, iced tea, water and maybe a sweet drink like lemonade or punch so that children can enjoy.

This is what we did for my niece when she got married a few years ago. My sisters and I baked all sorts of goodies and, in addition to her wedding cake, we served a wonderful variety of baked goods. No one left that dessert wedding reception hungry. Each guest forgot about their calorie count and had a great time that day. After all, it was a special occasion, which is what your wedding day is.
